New Release: STEPHEN SCIULLI “HIGH IN THE MOUNTAIN” · Out Now on CD/Digi

We’re pleased to announce the latest–and by far, the most esoteric–addition to the burgeoning Get Hip Folk Series catalog: High in the Mountain, the latest release from experimental folk artist and Carsickness mainstay Stephen Sciulli.

Out today (6/30) on CD and digital, the album features over a dozen instruments, roughly half of which Sciulli—the album’s sole writer and performer—plays for the first time. His self-taught performances on dobro (resonator guitar), banjo, and dulcimer meld seamlessly with expert passages of accordion, flute, Irish whistle, lap steel guitar, and various electronics, creating textures and atmospheres that evoke dream-states and otherworldly environments; earthy sounds reflecting deeply wooded hideaways, the mysteries of early evening in the mountains.

Scott Mervis (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) calls it:

“A trippy, mind-bending blend of country, Prog and Psych. The most out there member of Carsickness has created one of the more unusual and creative records that will come out of Pittsburgh this year”

High in the Moutain is available now on CD and digital. An LP release is slated for late summer 2017. We’ll have more details soon!
